Website Development Case Study for Magical Brains

Clients Business Background

Magical Brains is an Indian organization that provides learning tools and toys for children aged 0–6. The company’s goal is to help parents equip their children with the most appropriate learning tools for their early childhood development.

Project Objectives

The project aimed to create a professional and engaging website that matched the client’s vision and helped the business grow. The main objectives were:

  1. Building a comprehensive website that matched the client’s requirements and vision.
  2. Integrating technical setups for a smooth payment, billing, and shipping experience.
  3. Creating clearly categorized product listings across the site
  4. Prioritizing requirements carefully to stay within the client’s budget and match the client’s vision.

Planning

Starting a web development project without a clear work breakdown structure can make the project difficult to manage. Here’s the strategy we followed:

  1. We extracted the essential requirements from the information obtained during the process that is described above.
  2. We conducted a competitive analysis to determine the trends, competition, and customer needs in the selected market.
  3. We defined the project’s scope and requirements and developed a work breakdown structure.
  4. We defined the project’s scope and requirements and built a work breakdown structure around them.

Challenges We Faced

1. Upgrading the Hosting Infrastructure

An e-commerce website needs high-end hosting to handle heavy traffic. When the site first went live, we ran into low site speed as a result of standard managed hosting. Upgrading to cloud hosting solved this, cloud hosting provides a network of dedicated servers to a single website, giving full control over performance and the flexibility to make manual changes to server settings as needed.

2. Order Tracking

One of the integral features of a successful e-commerce user experience is the ability to easily track the progress of an order. In the process of selecting a suitable plugin, the most appropriate one was found, which matched the theme of the site and did not disrupt the user experience. It was crucial to find such a plugin, as an incompatible one would break the overall design, which would lead to a negative customer experience, and hence, lower the quality of service.

3. Setting Up Payment and Shipping Rules

The client needed different shipping charges for different products across different locations. This meant building a unique code base for each product-and-location combination, a process that required extensive research and close coordination to keep the workflow running smoothly and the coding accurate.

4. Making the Tracking Process Pincode Compatible

A Pincode-compatible website offers real advantages: visitors can check product availability in their area, and track orders with location-specific accuracy. Building the framework for this was genuinely difficult, it required integrating Pincode data into CSV files for each covered area. Once implemented, it gave the client:

  1. Product availability tracking through Pincode search
  2. Pincode assignment at the individual product level
  3. The ability to upload product Pincode data via CSV file
  4. Easy activation and deactivation of already-assigned Pincodes

5. Membership and Subscription Setup

Membership subscriptions are a common way to build a premium customer base in e-commerce, but implementing smooth, credible payment options for them was a genuine challenge. We also designed attractive banners and graphics to make the membership plans appealing to potential subscribers.

6. Importing Product Data

With a wide range of products to list, we needed to build a CSV file containing full product specifications and import it into the website, a process that came with its own set of errors to resolve:

  1. The CSV file size was too large, requiring us to extend upload limitations to accommodate it.
  2. We encountered basic coding errors during import, which required rechecking the data framework and correcting them individually.

7. Performance Optimization

E-commerce is a highly competitive space and is also trending in the Indian market, and site speed directly affects a brand’s growth. We compressed CSS and JS files to enable faster loading and further reduced load times by compressing images and other graphic elements on the landing page.

8. Determining Suitable Illustrative

Visuals and user experience are two of the most important factors for a website. These elements can influence users and persuade them to make a purchase. We worked together to understand what users want to see on the website to meet their expectations and create visuals that will attract these users.

Our Results

Through a combined effort between our R&D and web design teams, we delivered a comprehensive, fully functional website for Magical Brains. We took the time to compile and act on every insight from the requirement analysis phase to make sure the final site matched what the client actually needed.
